BARCLAYS DOCKING STATIONS: Craven Street
In the heart of London, is Benjamin Franklin House, the world's only remaining Franklin home. For nearly sixteen years between 1757 and 1775, Dr Benjamin Franklin, scientist, diplomat, philosopher, inventor, Founding Father of the United States lived behind its doors.  Built circa 1730, it is today a dynamic museum and educational facility.

While lodging at 36 Craven Street, Franklin's main occupation was mediating unrest between Britain and America, but he also served as Deputy Postmaster for the Colonies; pursued his love of science (exploring bifocal spectacles, the energy-saving Franklin stove); explored health (innoculation, air baths, cures for the common cold); music (inventing the delightful glass armonica for which Mozart, Bach and Beethoven composed) and letters (articles, epitaphs, and his witty Craven Street Gazette), all while forging a hearty social life and close friendships with leading figures of the day.

GUIDED TOURS
Each Monday, as an alternative to the Historical Experience, the Museum offers tours with on the history of Benjamin Franklin House with a guide.  The Georgian features of the 1730s building are revealed along with its fascinating history encompassing Franklin’s long residence (1757-1775), the Hewson anatomy school, and the comprehensive conservation project that saved it from dereliction. Tickets are £3.50 each.

Historical Experience

AGES
Children can experience the excitement of Franklin's years in London in the company of Polly Hewson, daughter of Ben's landlady who became like a daughter to him. The historic rooms become a stage for a live performance drama removing the traditional abstraction between museum and child. They experience Franklin's public health efforts, scientific interests, and diplomatic role, while exploring the Grade I building - with the secrets it tells about 18th century life in London during a momentous period in British and American history.
